"Scrap"py Projects

 Hi friends!

Ever since I started offering premade wood items in my Etsy shop, I've had random sized scrap wood filling up a bin in my studio and it makes me nuts. It seems like such a waste to just throw it away, so little by little I've been making "scrap"py projects that includes paddles, hornbooks and slatted frames to cut down on some of the bulk.

"HIPPITY HOP"
Primrose Cottages Stitches

"AMERICANA PETITES"
Little House Needleworks

"THE ROBINS ARE HERE"
Brenda Gervais, With Thy Needle and Thread

I'm really enjoying firing up my scrollsaw and coming up with these finishing boards for my pieces. It allows me another creative outlet when I need to do something a little different. It also helps when I have those randomly sized stitched projects I don't know what to do with!

New *Spring Collection* Prim Finishing Boards

Happy Friday, friends!

I recently finished up my new "Spring Collection" finishing boards for my Etsy shop which required me to stitch a few spring smalls -- and those of you who know me best know that I really do NOT enjoy stitching spring, so it was a challenge. Although I must say, even with the pastel colors I'm super proud with how they turned out, AND that once again I didn't chop a finger off! I'm actually enjoying making different boards so much I've recently started using my scrap wood for OOAK boards for my Etsy shop!

The four colors I came up with for my Spring Colection are Petal Pink, Pale Yellow, Spring Green and Lilac. (https://www.etsy.com/shop/StarryNightsStudioCo)

"Spring Wishes"

"Duo Petites Poules"
Collection Tralala

"Gertrude's Garden"

New *Winter Collection* Prim Finishing Boards

Over the past few weeks, I've been working on some basic finishing boards for my winter smalls I stitched during the holidays. I like to make them look old and primitive, so I really worked on "dirtying them up" by experimenting with different paint colors and finishes. It was more fun than I thought it'd be and I ended up enjoying it! I may even do this seasonally with different colors!

The four colors I landed on for the "Winter Collection" were Black, White, Cardinal Red and Winter Blue. They're available as premade finishing boards (with the fabric mats of your choice) in my Etsy shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/StarryNightsStudioCo), or as custom pieces with or without a fabric mat for my finishing service.

"Snowman Sampler"

"Snowman Kisses"

"Mr. Snowman"

HALLOWEEN FINISHES

Hello friends!

Today I'm sharing some of my Halloween finishes that I love putting out every year.

This "Happy Halloween" piece is a new addition this year. The pattern is from Primrose Cottage Stitches and it was super quick and easy to stitch. I matted the stitching to some black and white check fabric and then mounted it to the front of this spider wood sign I found at Joanns this year.

"Boo" from the Prairie Schooler is a small stitch that has been matted with two different coordinating fabrics and mounted to the inside of this "Trick or Treat" pedestal sign I found at Michaels. It sits on the top shelf along with my primitive Halloween doll, and of course, Rae Dunn mugs.

"Let Them Eat Candy" by Hands on Design was also mounted to a pedestal I found at Michaels. It's just matted with more buffalo check fabric and topped with a bow. I put this out next to my Halloween tiered tray.

As always, my "Bobbing for Pumpkins" piece by With thy Needle and Thread hangs from my rustic window. This was the piece inspired from Priscilla from Stitching with the Housewives. The sign is from Michaels and its perfect for the piece.

"Ye Old Crow" got a little update this year. I moved it from a black frame to this black window arch and then added some spooky ribbon and orange berries. It sits on a little bench with one of my Halloween gnomes.

"Tingles" by Lizzie Kate also got a little makeover this year. I moved it to an old whitewashed shutter and it currently sits on a bench in the corner (until I move it 100 times). I changed out the bow and added a few of those berries to coordinate it with the other pieces.
