HOT COCOA BAR

 Hello friends!

The Halloween decor has been put away and I'm slowly but surely taking out all of my Christmas decor. I had forgotten how many gingerbread pieces I had stitched and finished for my downstairs vignettes until I started pulling them all out of their bins today! 

This year, in addition to all of the gingerbread decor, my friend Christi and I decided we "needed" a hot cocoa bar theme, too! I'm working on stitching a bunch of patterns for that vignette, but I was able to get these two quick stitches done in the meantime to start filling in some space.

They're both finished on two of my red and white large check tiered tray blocks available in my Etsy shop.

"Cookies" from Lizzie Kate was a finished on the 3.5" x 5" block.

"Hot Cocoa" from Little House Needleworks was double-matted and finished on the 5" x 5" block.

Both were super quick and easy stitches. And being that I used the tiered tray blocks, all I had to really do was add some cording and bows.

The little pins on "Hot Cocoa" are from the talented Puntini Puntini. They're SO CUTE!

HALLOWEEN FINISHES

Hello friends!

Today I'm sharing some of my Halloween finishes that I love putting out every year.

This "Happy Halloween" piece is a new addition this year. The pattern is from Primrose Cottage Stitches and it was super quick and easy to stitch. I matted the stitching to some black and white check fabric and then mounted it to the front of this spider wood sign I found at Joanns this year. 

"Boo" from the Prairie Schooler is a small stitch that has been matted with two different coordinating fabrics and mounted to the inside of this "Trick or Treat" pedestal sign I found at Michaels. It sits on the top shelf along with my primitive Halloween doll, and of course, Rae Dunn mugs.

"Let Them Eat Candy" by Hands on Design was also mounted to a pedestal I found at Michaels. It's just matted with more buffalo check fabric and topped with a bow. I put this out next to my Halloween tiered tray.

As always, my "Bobbing for Pumpkins" piece by With thy Needle and Thread hangs from my rustic window. This was the piece inspired from Priscilla from Stitching with the Housewives. The sign is from Michaels and its perfect for the piece.

"Ye Old Crow" got a little update this year. I moved it from a black frame to this black window arch and then added some spooky ribbon and orange berries. It sits on a little bench with one of my Halloween gnomes.

"Tingles" by Lizzie Kate also got a little makeover this year. I moved it to an old whitewashed shutter and it currently sits on a bench in the corner (until I move it 100 times). I changed out the bow and added a few of those berries to coordinate it with the other pieces.

A Few Patriotic Stitches

Hi Friends!

This week I spent a little time stitching and finishing these small patriotic pieces. 

This is "USA Squared" by Lizzie Kate. I stitched this piece on scrap 28 tea-dyed Monaco using the following DMC colors: 816, 312, 334, 3051, 3364, 680, 3781, and White. It's finished with some coordinating fabric, and then mounted on a wood easel I found at Michaels last year. 

This second piece is "Let Freedom Ring" and it's also by Lizzie Kate. I had this USA hat frame I found at Christmas Tree Shop back when I lived in Connecticut in my stash and it was the perfect size. I matted it with some coordinating fabric and then mounted it to the top of the frame. The frame came with wired fireworks at the bottom, but since they covered up too much of the stitching, I ripped them off (literally), and used one of the fireworks as the center of the bow. It's such a fun piece!

The last piece I made from one of charts in "Festive Little Fobs 5" by Heartstring Samplery. It's small, so I just used a 4x4 wood coaster and mounted the piece with some coordinating fabric to the front. I think it would look so cute in a patriotic tiered tray!

Strawberries and Cream

Happy Friday, friends!

I just love pulling out my finished "Strawberries and Cream" piece from Stitchrovia every year. This piece is still one of my favorites that I've stitched. It's a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end!

I had finished this piece in an aqua, rustic frame I found at Joann's years ago. It's matted with some really pretty strawberry red quilting fabric, and edged with handmade cording. I added another layer of handmade cording between the quilting fabric and the frame as well just to make it pop. All four corners have a wooden leaf with a small rosette in the center. 

In addition to this piece, this year I added "Berry Buzz" from Misty over at Luminous Fiber Arts to my upstairs red, white and teal-themed vignette. I stitched this on 32 ct Taupe Lugana and used Caribbean Waters from Classic Colorworks for the aqua instead of the darker called-for blue. It's mounted on some black and white gingham fabric and attached with magnets to this wooden block I found at Michaels. I like to use this block for a lot of my smaller pieces in this tiered tray.

Both of these pieces coordinate with last year's "Berry" finish by Lizzie Kate. I love pulling that piece out every year, too!

Let It *Fake* Snow!

 Hello Friends!

Today I'm posting the last two pieces I have displayed in my winter hutch decor in the kitchen area. (If you follow me on Instagram you've probably already seen the hutch in pieces.)

I finished January Sampler of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks as a baking tin finish to replace my Baked Goods finish from Christmas. To fit the size of the tin, I had to remove the two layers of snowflakes in the pattern -- which was a blessing because I HATE stitching snowflakes. I also removed the "January" marker. I do this with all of my monthly marker patterns now so I don't have to switch them out each month. Instead, I can keep them out for the whole season.

The stitched piece is matted with some black and white gingham and attached with a magnet since I use this tin in my decor a lot. I added some flocked greenery, a bow and a snowflake button to the top to jazz it up.

The second finish was January Stamp by Lizzie Kate. I just stitched the snowman and changed all the colors to match the rest of the decor in the hutch. Then I matted it with more black and white gingham and attached it to the side of this olive bucket I found at Hobby Lobby. I needed to fill it with something, so I found these small fake snowballs at Amazon and threw them in. It's the closest I'll come to snow here in Phoenix! (No, I don't miss it if you're curious!)

I also added these adorable gingham snowmen from Gena's Country Accents on Etsy to my display this year. They're just sitting on top of this aqua stand I found at HomeGoods. I just love these little snowmen!

Christmas Rules

 Hello friends!

One of my favorite pieces I finished and put out this year HAS to be "Christmas Rules" by Lizzie Kate. 

I had stitched this piece last year but didn't have time to get it finished and displayed, so this is the first year I get to actually enjoy the Rules. 

The piece is matted on some black and red gingham fabric and edged with white cording. I knew I wanted to mount it to a fence of some kind, so my mom being the trooper she is, went flea market shopping with me all across the Phoenix area until we came home with this perfect white-washed one. 

I plan to use the fence for other pieces, so I didn't want to glue Christmas Rules directly to it, so instead I just added a loop of twine to the back of the piece that I have hung over one of the posts. I added a large buffalo check bow, a rusty jingle bell and some greenery with berries, but it seemed too plain so I threw some Christmas garland across the top and sides for some color.

Happy October!

We have officially transitioned from summer to all Halloween and fall decor in our household and I could not be happier! 

I showed you my new upstairs loft shelves a couple weeks back where I went with a more muted fall palette: Loft Fall Decor  Every other area of the house is much more traditionally decorated.

As always, my Lizzie Kate Halloween Rules tombstone is front and center. If I could stitch this again, I would in a heartbeat. It's still one of my favorites!

The piece was stitched on Vintage Country Mocha Lugana using DMC threads. I matted it with tan and black homespun fabric and mounted it to the front of this pre-lit wood tombstone I found at Joann's a few years back. All I did was add some garland and a couple Dollar Tree bats.

After I stitched Halloween Rules, I stitched up Lizzie Kate's Boo Club since I had all of the threads out. 

Like Halloween Rules, Boo Club was stitched on the same fabric and matted with the same homespun before being mounted to this whitewashed board from Michaels. 

Upstairs, I decorated my old window with some Halloween garland from Michaels, and hung my Bobbing for Pumpkin witches by Brenda Gervais in the center. This is the ever-so-popular finish inspired by Priscilla Blain a few years ago: https://priscillas2000.blogspot.com/2017/09/some-witchy-stitching.html  After I saw Priscilla's, I just knew I had to run out and get the sign to finish mine the same way.

Bobbing for Pumpkins is accompanied by Lizzie Kate's Tingles that I stitched and finished last year. It's mounted to a grey-washed board I found at Michaels (although I did dry-brush some white over the board to lighten it a bit).

And new this year is Ye Olde Crow Sampler by Heart in Hand stitched entirely with Onyx from Weeks Dye Works. It's stitched on Vintage Country Mocha, matted with that same homespun, edged with black cording, and mounted to a pedestal frame I found at Michaels this year.

My Halloween tiered-tray is still a little bit of a work in progress while I work on stitching up some smaller pieces, as well as the Halloween tree I bought this weekend with the intent of decorating it with some stitched Haloween ornaments.
