Caught a Bug?

Have you ever had a card that's ALMOST done, but you just can't figure out how to put it all together? This card has literally been sitting in a desk drawer for weeks because every time I would pick it up, I'd put it right back down. I had no idea how to display the stamp so that you could actually see it. It just kept blending in with the background. Finally I decided to cut around the stamp and mat it in red cardstock. Well that made it stand out, but it looked funny just floating on top of the card.

Well this morning as I went through my Google Reader (by the way, if you follow more than 5 blogs and don't use Google Reader, you should reconsider - so much easier...), and my Stamps 'R Us friend, Karen, posted her "Beach Globe" card this morning, and it all came together.

I loved the way Karen framed her card with the two different mats and embellishments. When I saw this, I quickly ran up to my craft room and copied it. Thanks, Karen!!! The stamp is from Whipper Snapper. I swear if I had all the money in the world I would own every single one of their stamps. The stamp was watercolored and outlined in grey pencil. I used green polka dot paper from DCWV and red cardstock and then printed out the sentiment on my PC.

Have a Hoot!

Okay guys, I have a new place for you to all spend your money. It's Jessica Lynn Original, a rubber stamping store that offers clear and digi stamps designed by a very talented artist, Jessica Lynn. I was contacted by Jessica and asked to design a card around one of her digi stamps and I was more than excited to oblige once I saw her Brentwood Owl collection. So adorable!

For this particular design, I chose her Happy Birthday Brentwood stamp because he's just so stinkin' cute, and decided to compliment him with fun, vibrant colored DP. I colored him with Prismas and shaded the background with chalk and then added Nestabilities, buttons and brads for embellies. By the way, this digi stamp of Brentwood does not come with the "Have a hoot!" sentiment. He is actually just holding a plain white sign that you can customize, which I love, love, love!

When you get a chance, please check out Jessica's shop. She's very, very talented, and I will be visiting often.

You Take the Cupcake!

Have you ever bought a stamp and then it just sits in your stamping drawer for a year without use? I have had this cupcake stamp from Unity for the longest time and just never knew what to do with it. Then I recently bought a DCWV birthday paper stack and found out later that a lot of the paper is cupcake-themed and it all just came together. I used my Prismas, of course, to color in the cupcake, and added a little glitter to the flame (though you can't tell by the picture). The pink ribbon was actually part of a prize pack I had one from an earlier challenge and gave the card just enough contrast. I'm not really a "pink" person, but I didn't have much of a choice on this one. :)

The layout for this card came from the Sketch Saturday Challenge #110 hosted by Simmone. I stumbled across this blog just recently so this will be my first entry. Join me if you'd like!

Happy Birthday, Doreen!

My friend Doreen is celebrating her birthday today, so "princess birthday week" officially starts right now - whether she likes it or not!

For Doreen's birthday, I made a card featuring my new noise maker stamp from Unity. I love Unity stamps because they are so deeply etched, giving you a little more room than you normally have with other stamps. Because of this, I decided to use my watercolors, pulling out colors from my polka-dot and striped DP, and gave both the stamp and sentiment a little chalk shadow background.

I tried to make the card as colorful as possible to match Doreen's personality, and I really hope she likes it!

I also made a gift card to match.
